Every national association is at a different stage and in a different situation when it comes to grassroots club development. In some countries, a strong club culture has been developed over decades; for others, it is only in recent years that the need for a strong club structure has become evident. It does not matter what stage you are at. What matters is having a vision for your country and knowing what role you want to play and why.

A strong club development programme helps to strengthen and bring the game together. It provides a direct link between the national association, its regional associations and its clubs. At its best, where national associations have aligned their club development plans with their key objectives, we have seen some outstanding results for clubs, the national association and most importantly the player.

Whether or not it incorporates an accreditation programme, we believe grassroots club development should be a part of every national association’s strategic plan.

From the national association’s perspective, effective club development will bring the following benefits in terms of community, collaboration and continuity
